National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

The University of South Alabama (USA) is asking first-year students and seniors to help shape the future of the University by participating in NSSE (pronounced "Nessie").

What is NSSE?

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), administered by the University of Indiana, collects feedback from first-year and senior students from hundreds of four-year colleges and universities across the United States regarding the quality of their undergraduate experience.

How to Participate

NSSE is administered online. Survey links will be sent directly to first-year students and seniors through JagMail and Canvas.

Survey Questions

Each participating institution selects two sets of questions on specific topics to evaluate. This year, USA has selected Development of Transferable Skills and Mental Health & Well-Being. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Development of Transferable Skills

This module examines activities that develop useful and transferable skills for the workplace and beyond (such as verbal and written fluency, critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, project management, and time management), and is aligned the University's LevelUP Quality Enhancement Plan: Uniquely Prepared for What Comes Next.

Mental Health & Well-Being

The Mental Health and Well-Being Topical Module provides colleges and universities an opportunity to understand and address current concerns about students’ emotional, psychological, and social wellness. Results will help institutions promote well-being by purposefully creating supportive environments and providing necessary resources for students to thrive. This module assesses students’ experiences related to a range of dimensions for mental health and well-being. It also examines sources of support and explores students’ perceptions about campus resources.
