Department of Music

The Department of Music at the University of South Alabama, through its innovative curriculum and exemplary faculty, offers educational and creative opportunities for musicians and music educators. Propelled by an increasing music student population, a newly created graduate degree program, and a highly active concert series featuring accomplished soloists and diverse ensembles, the department continually embraces new artistic experiences that balance the rich history of music with emerging music of the 21st century. The department is an important asset to the University of South Alabama and a valuable resource for the entire Gulf Coast region. 

Undergraduate Degrees

Major in music and choose from concentrations in education (instrumental or choral), music performance, music business or music in outside fields. Non-majors can also minor in music. Both music majors and minors are eligible for scholarships pending a successful audition.

Graduate Degrees

South offers a Master of Music degree with concentrations in education (instrumental or choral), performance or collaborative keyboard. The department also offers graduate teaching assistantships pending availability and a successful audition.

Jaguar Marching Band

The Jaguar Marching Band is currently 250 members strong and performs at football games and campus events, as well as other events throughout the Gulf Coast. Students interested in auditioning for the Jaguar Marching Band can find more information here.
